WBPC requests PM to set up Land Commission
Kolkata, July 11 (UNI) The West Bengal Pradesh Congress (WBPC) today requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to immediately set up a land commission at the Centre to ensure proper distribution of land for industrialisation programmes of the states.
Speaking to newspersons after holding a meeting with the Prime Minister at Raj Bhawan, West Bengal Pradesh Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharya and chief whip in the state assembly Manas Bhuniya said, ''The Prime Minister after giving a patient hearing promised to look into the issue sympathetically.'' Quoting the Prime Minister, they said since the problem prevailed in some other states also the government was already looking into the diversified aspect of the issue.
Mr Bhattacharya and Mr Bhuniya said they also requested Dr Singh to ensure that the ''draconian Bill'' giving more power to the Panchayats has to be opposed.
They asked the Prime Minister to ensure that the Bill be stopped from being brought to the House as projected by former Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer.
