Water level in Alamatti dam rises further

Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) The Alamatti dam, across river Krishna, in Bijapur district of Karnataka is almost full with the water level touching 517.31 metres today as against its full level of 519.6m.

The dam had been receiving heavy inflows for the last one week due to torrential rains in Maharashtra. The inflow, which had touched two lakh cusecs on July six, had gradually reduced to 1.05 lakh yesterday due to let up in rains. However, the inflow marginally rose today to touch 1.27 lakh cusecs.

The dam authorities said 86,500 cusecs was discharged by lifting 12 crest gates.

River Krishna was still in spate and a round-the-clock help desk had been set up to monitor the flood situation and give information to people, he added.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Cauvery basin reservoirs rose slightly due to reduced inflows. However, all the dams were almost full as the catchment areas continued to experience rainfall.

A report from Mysore said the water level Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir, built across river Cauvery, near here, slightly rose to 121.25 ft as against its maximum level of 124.80 ft. The inflow into the reservoir reduced to 7,657 cusecs from 15,759 cusecs yesterday and the discharged was 1,017 cusecs.

In the Kabini reservoir, the level stood at 2,282.43 ft as against the full capacity of 2,284 ft. The inflow and outflow was 6,640 and 5,000 cusecs respectively.

The water level in the Harangi reservoir was 2,856.50 ft with an inflow of 3,133 cusecs. The outflow was 2,771 cusecs.
