UP urban local bodies poll in September
Lucknow, July 11 (UNI) After a year long delay, the much demanded elections for the three-phase Uttar Pradesh urban local bodies would be held in September.
State Urban Development minister Mohammad Azam Khan today said his department has recommended holding of the local bodies poll to the state election commission (SEC) in September, 2006.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Khan said old reservation system would be enforced in the polls which had been delayed for the last one year due to cases pending in the Allahabad High Court.
The state government has also moved a petition in the Supreme Court against the HC decision over the loop-holes in the new reservation system and anomalies in the delimitation of the wards.
Elections would be held for the 12 nagar nigam, 195 nagar Palika Parishads and 417 nagar panchayats in the state.
Late last year, the state government had successfully held polls for the three-tier panchayat bodies.
