Two NLFT rebels killed, three security personnel injured

Agartala, July 11 (UNI) Two hardcore rebels of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) were shot dead and three security personnel injured in separate encounters in Tripura's Dhalai and West Districts respectively yesterday.

Police also recovered arms on the eve of the proposed Raising Day celebrations by the underground All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) today.

According to police reports reaching here today, a fierce encounter took between Assam Rifles (AR) jawans and the banned NLFT guerillas at Godaibari in Atharamura hill range under Ganganagar police station in Dhalai district.

When the Assam Rifles jawans launched special anti-insurgency operations at Godaibari nearly 30 to 40 NLFT rebels armed with sophisticated weapons started firing indiscriminately on the jawans.

The jawans retaliated killing two hardcore extremists on the spot. The other members of the group managed to escape under the cover of the thick jungle in the Atharamura hill.

There was, however, no report of any casualty or injury on the security force side in the encounter.

Later in the search operation, the AR jawans recovered two SLRs from the spot.

SP Dhalai and AR battalion Commandant rushed to the spot immediately fter the encounter with reinforcement and launched a combing operation to nab the fleeing guerrillas.

In another incident, Assam Rifles jawans fired at Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans in a case of misidentity in remote Ampura under Khowai sub-division in West Tripura last night.

Three jawans from both sides were injured in the firing.

The incident occurred when TSR jawans on a tip-off laid an ambush to capture underground militants, a group of patroling AR jawns arrived at the spot.

The TSR wanted to know about their identity, the AR jawns misunderstood them to be militants and started firing.

In the cross firing two AR and a TSR jawan were injured.

All the injured were shifted to GB hospital here.

Senior officials rushed to the spot.

In another incident, CRPF jawans in special operations arrested one NLFT (BM) militant from Sindhukumar Para under Manu police station in Dhalai district yesterday.

He was handed over to the police, sources said.

In another development, the BSF jawans recovered two 3.3 rifles, two country made guns, an wireless set from Sindhukumar Para under Ambasa sub-division on Monday.
