Suspect arrested after fifth blast in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 11: One suspect was arrested by police immediately after the fifth blast at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), near here, in which six people were injured.

Official sources said unidentified people threw a hand grenade at TRC this afternoon causing injuries to six people. The injured were hospitalised.

However, police immediately cordoned off the area and arrested one suspect from Sumbal.

The suspect was later handed over to Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police for questioning.

A series of grenade blasts in the city left seven people dead and 33 injured today.

However, officials remained tight-lipped about the blasts.

Police recently claimed to have arrested militants responsible for causing grenade and IED blasts in the valley, particuarly in the Srinagar city.

Yesterday, police said it killed District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) at Qazigund in south Kashmir, who was responsible for a grenade attack on the rally of former National Confernece (NC) minister Sakeena Itoo at Kulgam on Saturday in which five people, including a former MLA, were killed and 40 others wounded.

However, a spokesman for the HM denied that the outfit was responsible for the attack.

He said the District commander was arrested and later killed in a fake encounter.
