Sensex crashes 69 pts to shut at 10,614.30
Mumbai, July 11 (UNI) The BSE Sensex witnessed weak trading as it went down by 69.95 points to close low at 10,614.30, as fresh-selling emerged at every small rise, which indicated lack of interest, brokers said.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)-30 share Sensitive Index (Sensex) finished lower by 69.95 points (0.65 per cent) after opening a tad higher at 10,699.62, which was also its high for the day.
It registered a low of 10,566.71 in the late afternoon session when selling intensified.
The Sensex oscillated in a range of 133 points amid high volatility.
The S&P CNX Nifty also lost 25.85 points (0.82 per cent) to close low at 3,116.15. It opened high at 3,145.30 points, and moved upto 3146.00, but then came down at 3,100 in intra-day session.
The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 2,404 crore, which is higher than the total turnover of Rs 2,242 crore yesterday.
The market-breadth was negative on BSE, with 1,169 stocks advancing, as compared to 1,203 that declined. A total of 74 scrips remained unchanged.
The BSE midcap index rose 0.20 per cent, while the smallcap index was up 0.45 per cent.
Among the Sensex pack, 19 shares slipped while 11 advanced.
US indices finished mixed yesterday, with the Dow Jones being up 13 points to 11,104 and the Nasdaq losing 13 points to settle at 2,117, amid weakness in technology stocks, brokers added.
