Mumbai, July 11 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today deferred for a week, the hearing of an appeal filed by Sehrunissa, mother of Zaheera Sheikh, who was sentenced to three months rigorous imprisonment for giving false evidence during the retrial into the Best Bakery case here.

The matter came up for hearing today before Justice D B Bhosale who adjourned the hearing as the appeal was not entertained because she had been awarded a petty conviction for only three months under section 375 of Criminal Procedure Code. The court however, asked her lawyer if the appeal is maintainable or not and suggested that rather than making an appeal, they should file a writ petition challenging the conviction.

Sehrunissa had filed the appeal after a special court here convicted and sentenced her to three months rigorous mprisonment.

The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 500 upon her.

Pronouncing the verdict here on May 16, the special court had, however, granted her a month's time to challenge the verdict in the upper court and she had been released on a personel bond.
