SAIL bags SCOPE Gold Trophy

New Delhi, Jul 11 (UNI) Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has bagged the gold trophy of the prestigious 'SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contributions to Public Sector Management' for 2004-05.

SAIL, which was competing in the Institutional category, emerged winner after recording best-ever physical and financial parameters during 2004-05. Effecting a major turnaround in the previous year, the public sector undertaking recorded highest ever production of saleable steel, best ever product-mix and techno-economic parameters such as coke rate, energy consumption and continuous cast output.

The award is presented every year by Standing Committee of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), the apex body of public sector companies in India, after evaluating established performance criteria by a jury comprising eminent persons and assisted by the International Management Institute, a company release here said.

The award for SAIL is in continuance of a number of honours including the Prime Minister's Trophy for the Best Integrated Steel Plant in the country presented to SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant, Golden Peacock Innovation Award in the area of Research and Development, and Greentech Environment Excellence Gold Award during this period.

The prize takes into cognisance SAIL's Corporate Plan 2011-12 which aims at retaining the company's market leadership in the Indian steel industry. Recently, the company upgraded its corporate plan to include modernisation of its speciality steel plants and IISCO Steel Plant (ISP).

Responding to the news of SAIL bagging the award, SAIL Chairman V S Jain, said, "The award is a testimony to SAIL's persistent efforts to set new standards in the areas of business and earn respect of the society for its contributions to the community." UNI SD RA HT1650
