Rupee opens weak by nine paise at 46.19/21 per USD

Mumbai, Jul 11: The Rupee opened today softer by nine paise to Rs 46.19/21 per US dollar, forex dealers said.

The Rupee ducked the broad Asian trend to lose the previous session's gains against the dollar. The rupee also failed to sustain the strong start to the day and bolstered by the yen's gains against the dollar. Corporate demand hit the rupee, entailing broader short covering and pulling the rupee down to 46.19. Crude oil prices dipped slightly offering comfort but demand from oil companies was also said to have existed, dealers added.

Forwards: Forward premia ended flat at most tenors in overall range bound trade. Intra-day movement could have been affected by views over this month's RBI monetary policy review.

However, the BSE Sensex opened in the red by 60 points and is currently trading at 10,640 points.
