Reliance mobile service for expansion in NE

Aizawl, Jul 11: Mobile service provider Reliance Telecom Limited (RTL) has chalked out a blue print to expand its network on a massive scale across the NE region.

Announcing the plans, a RTL spokesman here today said that there are ambitious plans to roll out GSM services in the entire Northeast.

By the middle of the third quarter of this financial year, RTL plans to launch services in close to 275 new towns and cities across the Northeast.

It has also undertaken a massive capacity expansion exercise in existing locations with plans to set up a large number of base transceiver stations (BTS).

It would also install new mobile switch centre (MSC) with latest features like all 3G services, IN platform, GPRS and Edge by the end of September to cater to the large network requirement in the NE region.

According to the sources, RTL has already spread its operations to several new locations in the region.

It is now operational in Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura apart from Asom and Meghalaya.

Similarly, all survey works have been completed in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram for rolling out RTL services by December.

The towns to have RTL services soon are Itanagar, Naharlagun, Pasighat, Roing and Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh and Kolasib, Aizawl, Champhai, Lunglei and Saiha in Mizoram.

Most of the operational towns are already undergoing capacity upgradation in a big way.

All these towns will have enhanced radio capacity by end of August.

RTL has also floated a new plan giving additional bonus talk time to all subscribers who have been in the network for more than six months. RTL has waived off its activation fees of Rs 250 for new post-paid connections, the sources added.
