Red alert in TN

Chennai, July 11 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu State Police today sounded a red alert across the state in the wake of serial blasts in Mumbai suburban trains.

The administration has sent urgent messages to all police chiefs in districts and cities to provide additional security measures in the crowded places like bus terminals and railway stations.

Police sources said security measures had been beefed up further at all places of worship, especially at important temples throughout the state.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police D Mukherjee held an urgent meeting with top police officials at Police headquarters here to discuss measures to meet any eventuality, besides alerting his subordinates in the state.

The sources said they also alerted the Anti-bomb Squad personnel and Fire and Rescue Department. They had been asked to intensify vigil and be ready for operations whenever required.

City Police Commissioner Latika Saran instructed her subordinates in the city through SMS to keep vigil with heightened security measures and remain in full alert. She asked them to intensify patrolling and vehicle check-ups.

Both the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force have enhanced their security at all Railway stations and important installations of the Southern Railway network to prevent untoward incidents.

Security at both the Anna International Aiport and Kamaraj Domestic Airport were further tightened, the sources added.
