Rail freight revenue goes up by 9.91 per cent
New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Maintaining its buoyancy in freight revenue, the Railways carried 175.84 million tonnes of freight traffic during the first quarter of the current fiscal, registering an increase of 9.91 per cent.
The Railways had carried 159.98 million tonnes during the same period last year, a ministry spokeman said today.
Revenue earning freight traffic on originating basis during last month was 58.17 million tonnes, marking an increase of 11.01 per cent over the freight traffic of 52.40 million tonnes carried during the same period last year.
The Railways has set a target of 800 million tonnes of freight trafiic during 2006-07.
