Prime Minister arrives on 1 day visit to Kolkata

Kolkata, Jul 11: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today arrived at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport by a special Indian Air Force aircraft on a day's visit to the city.

Dr Singh was received at the airport by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Congress leaders Soumen Mitra and Manas Bhuniya.

After arrival at around 1045 hours, the Prime Minister left for the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics at Salt Lake, where he will lay the foundation of the Indian Institute of Science and Research.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet veteran CPI(M) leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu at his residence following the inauguration.

Dr Singh is scheduled meet Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi at Raj Bhavan following which will meet Mr Bhattacharjee separately.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to New Delhi at around 1600 hours.
