Police recover stolen properties worth Rs 80 lakh

Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) The city police have recovered stolen properties, including 45 computers, worth Rs 80,37,200, and arrested 49 people in this connection during the last 15 days, City Police Commissioner Neelam Achutha Rao said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said Rs 15 lakh worth computers, recovered by the Mahadevapura police station, had been stolen from Government schools in Bangalore Urban and Rural districts. Teenaged culprit Gangadhar was nabbed by the alert beat police when he was taking five stolen computers in an autorickshaw. On interrogation, he confessed to have looted 40 computers from various Government schools as they had no security.

Mr Rao said the City South Zone Police have arrested 19 people and recovered properties worth Rs 40.45 lakhs, including a car, 17 two-wheelers, five gold chains and two gold rings.

Police arrested one Sagairaj, who used to join as driver and loot the valuables left behind in the car by the owners, and recovered two laptops, worth Rs two lakhs, and Rs 2,30,000 in cash.

He said the arrested included a five-member inter-state gang hailing from Gujarat. The gang used to loot laptops while travelling and robbed electronic items from foreign tourists. Investigations have revealed that the gang was involved in similar crimes in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chennai. Six laptops worth Rs 4.5 lakhs were recovered from the gang.
