PM holds talks with Basu, Bhattacharjee

Kolkata, Jul 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today met West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu during his five-hour flying visit to the city.

Dr Singh, who was here to lay the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Science and Research (IISER) drove to Mr Basu's Salt Lake residence immediately after the programme and inquired about his health.

They remained closeted for about 15 minutes exchanging views on some current issues.

Later, the Prime Minister went to the Raj Bhavan where he separately met Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and the Chief Minister.

He also met delegations of Congressmen and CITU before leaving the city.
