Offence registered against M F Hussain, police tells HC

Mumbai, July 11 (UNI) Police today informed the Bombay High Court that they have registered an offence against noted artist M F Hussain for allegedly making derogatory paintings of Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Police made a statement to this effect before a division bench comprising Justices D G Deshpande and S A Bobde, in response to a number of petitions filed for directions to register a criminal complaint against the painter.

Following this, the crime branch unit-I has registered an offence against Hussain under section 295-A of the IPC, for hurting religious feelings of a community, police told the court.

Meanwhile, the bench also directed police to file a progress report of its investigation into the matter, within two weeks.
