MADRID, July 11 (Reuters) French Open champion Rafael Nadal escaped unhurt after the car in which he was travelling hit an electricity pylon on Mallorca, Spanish media reported today.

The 20-year-old world number two returned to his home town on the island on Monday after losing to Switzerland's Roger Federer in the men's singles final at Wimbledon.

Spanish news agency Europa Press reported that a woman who lived nearby went to investigate after hearing the noise of the accident and found Nadal dizzy but unhurt.

She said the tennis player recovered after having a drink at her house and the car was taken away by a tow truck.

The pylon collapsed as a result of the impact and local radio station IB3 reported the accident had caused power cuts in the Portocristo area of the island.

Residents said they had complained about the dangerous location of the pylon on a tricky downhill stretch of the road.
