MindTree Consulting to open development centre in Chennai

Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) Global IT and R and D services company MindTree Consulting's second development centre in Chennai will be operational from August.

The company, expanding outside Bangalore for the first time, would house 150 engineers at the centre initially and double the headcount by the end of the current fiscal, according to a company release here today.

MindTree had plans of setting up a campus in Chennai that would seat 5,000 employees. The company was exploring options of acquiring land for the proposed campus. MindTree's Chennai campus would not only adhere to global standards, but also reflect the spirit of innovation that MindTree campuses were known for, the release said.

''MindTree has emerged as one of the fastest growing IT companies in India. In order to sustain this growth, we need to expand our presence to other key IT hubs in the country. We find Chennai as the city most conducive to our needs. The city has a base of rich talent pool and continues to attract more from neighbouring States.

MindTree, which has heavy focus on developing intellectual properties and works on some of the cutting edge technologies, will benefit from the proximity of educational institutions such as the IIT that produce some of the finest engineers,'' MindTree Consulting Chairman and Managing Director Ashok Soota said.

He said Chennai had an impressive infrastructure that supported the city's rapid growth. The launch of MindTree's Chennai operations was a significant step forward in the journey to meet the company's vision of US Dollar 231 million in revenue in 2007-08.

MindTree had in April announced an impressive 85 per cent growth in revenue over the previous year to become the first IT company in India to cross US Dollar 100 million in revenue in six years.

MindTree expected to add about 1,400 people this year to the 3,200 it had at the beginning of the year. It had also set an aggressive target of 50 per cent growth this year. Earlier this year, MindTree signed an MoU with the Orissa Government to set up a development centre in Bhubaneswar.
