K'taka HC directs govt advocate to furnish details on rice scheme
Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) The Karantaka High Court today admitted a writ petition and directed the government advocate to furnish information about the distribution of subsidised rice and other ration articles under the 'Antyodaya Anna Yojane.' In his petition (PIL), former legislator from Mysore A Ramadas sought a direction to the state government and the departments concerned to comply and follow the guidelines issued by the Union Government for distribution of subsidised foodgrains to eligible persons.
The petitioner contended that the Centre had formulated a scheme called 'Antyodaya Anna Yojane' and issued an order requiring the state government to prepare a list of eligible beneficiaries under the scheme, publish it and provide and opportunity to the public to file objections. After considering the objections, the state government and its undertakings could distribute the foodgrains to the beneficiaries.
However, the guidelines were not followed and the foodgrains were clandestinely distributed to ineligible persons, he alleged and sought direction to the authorities to comply with the guidelines.
The Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice D V Shylendra Kumar, ordered the notices and adjourned further hearing of the petition to next week.
