Thiruvananthapuram, July 11 (UNI) Security has been tightened across Kerala in the wake of the serial bomb blasts in suburban trains in Mumbai, Director-General of Police Raman Srivastava said today.

He said additional police forces would be deployed at important places like railway stations, bus stands, airports and other sensitive places as part of keeping special vigil.

A report from Kochi said general alert has been sounded and security measures stepped up at vital installations and crowded public places in Kochi.

City Police Commissioner P Vijayan told UNI that police presence had been stepped up in crowded areas such as the KSRTC, private bus stands and the railway stations.

The internal security of the several vital installations in the city such as Cochin Port and Shipyard, Kochi Refineries and the Nedumbassery International Airport had been placed on alert and asked to keep vigil.

Bomb disposal and sniffer dog squads were also on an alert, he added.

''The situation here is perfectly normal. All the measures are being taken as a precaution in view of the general alert,'' the Commissioner said.
