Israeli missile attack hurts 2 militants in Gaza

Gaza, Jul 11: An Israeli aircraft fired missiles at Palestinian militants in the northern Gaza Strip today, wounding two of them, witnesses said.

The Israeli military, confirming the attack, said it had targeted rocket launchers that gunmen had set up in the area.

Israel has been carrying out air and ground assaults in the Gaza Strip since June 28, three days after militants abducted an Israeli soldier in a cross-border raid.

Witnesses said two militants were critically wounded in the missile attack, in farmland near the town of Beit Hanoun, and taken to hospital.

Earlier, Israeli aircraft destroyed a bridge in the northern Gaza Strip that was partially damaged in earlier strikes.

Israeli officials have said bridges in the area were hit to hinder the movement of militants.

Israel's targeting of Gaza infrastructure over the past two weeks has drawn some international criticism.

Israeli leaders have said the Gaza operations were aimed at pressuring militants to return the kidnapped soldier and to stop daily rocket attacks against southern Israel.
