'High Alert' in Capital after Mumbai blasts

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Following a series of blasts in Mumbai this evening the Delhi Police has sounded a 'high alert' in the Capital and beefed up security at all strategic points including markets, crowded places, city borders and VIP areas.

Police Commissioner K K Paul has announced a state of 'high alert' in the Capital and security at religious places, crowded markets, railway stations and specially at metro stations has been beefed up, Additional Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak told UNI.

''Though there was no specific information we were on general alert since morning. 'High Alert' has been sounded in the evening after the Mumbai blasts.'' Besides this, 'spotters' (who identify terror suspects according to the police dossier) of the Special Cell have been despatched to railway stations and sensitive spots in the city, even as the 'dog squad' sent to market places and railway stations, he said.

''The 'bomb squad' has also been alerted for any exigency.'' The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is being talked over to pad up security preparations at metro stations and additional forces send to crowded areas like shopping complexes, cinema halls, and big temples said Mr Pathak.

''While city borders are being manned on a heightened scale, additional chech-points have been set up all over the city and crowded areas being monitored as well.'' Frisking of suspects and people at bus terminuses and railway stations were also being done as an extra precaution, he added.

''We are advising people to stay calm and inform the police of any suspicious object or person they come across.'' UNI AN RL BD1952
