New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Security at all the metro stations in the capital has been heightened in the wake of a series of blasts in Mumbai this evening.

''Security at all the metro stations in Delhi was beefed up at around 1900 Hours this evening,''the chief spokesperson of the Delhi Metro rail corporation (DMRC) Anuj Dayal told UNI.

While the drivers of the metro trains have been asked to be extra cautious, the security staff have been instructed to be more vigilant in the frsiking and search operations at the stations, Mr Dayal said.

He said an additional number of policemen in plain clothes had been deployed at the stations as part of the heightened security.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is being used to pad up security preparations at metro stations.

Mr Dayal said the DMRC's central security service, which takes care of security at the stations in case of an emergency, had been activated.

The claims of Mr Dayal notwithstanding, the level of security at many metro stations was reported to be lax till as late as 2030 Hours. Passengers at many stations found no extra security arrangements, which would signify a measure of heightened security at the stations.
