Heavy rains in Hamirpur district of HP

Shimla, July 11 (UNI) Torrential rains disrupted life in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hrs, triggering landslides and washing away fertile land at several places in the district, met and official sources said today.

Widespread loss to crops, houses, fertile land and irrigation and water supply schemes were reported from Nadaun area of the district after receiving 123 mm of rains during the last 24 hrs.

The entire area was under five to six feet of water after receiving the season's heaviest rainfall of the season, destroying maize crop in Tillu area of the district, besides cutting off the road link with the Barssal panchayat, official sources said.

The sources said the Beas River and other small and big rivulets flowing through the district were in spate and has washed away prime fertile land at several places in the district.

Landslides on the Hamirpur-Mandi National Highway disrupted traffic at Kolhoosidg area of the district and official sources said transshipment of buses was taking place there.

The sources said the PWD labour was working round the clock to remove the debris from the National Highway.

The district administration spokesman said it was monitoring the situation due to heavy rains in the district.

A report from Kangra district said the entire Kangra valley had received heavy rains during the last four days, but no loss of life and property was reported from anywhere in the district.
