HCP on Rajiv case accused

Chennai, Jul 11 (UNI) Madras High Court today posted to July 14, the hearing on the Habeas Corpus Petition (HCP) seeking protection and safety for the life of Murugan who is incarcerated in the Vellore Central Prison after being convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi Assasination Case.

A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice P Sathasivam and Mr Justice V Dhanapalan before whom the HCP filed by Advocate P Pugalanthi came up for hearing, directed the government counsel to get instructions regarding the medical treatment given to Murugan.

According to the petitioner, Murugan was on an indefinite fast from June 25 seeking student visa for his daughter Arithira who was at present residing in Sri Lanka.

Her mother Nalini, convicted in the same case and undergoing imprisonment in the Vellore Prison, was also on fast for the same purpose.

When the petitioner went to Vellore to meet another accused in the case Robert Payas, he sought permission to meet Murugan and it was refused.

Murugan was still on fast, his health fast detoriating and was on the verge of collapse as he refused to take even drinking water, the advocate contended.

The petitioner sought producing Murugan before the court and a direction to the authorities to ensure protection and safety to his life besides ensuring medical treatment to him.
