Gunmen ambush bus in Baghdad, kill 10 - police

BAGHDAD, July 11 (Reuters) Gunmen today ambushed a minibus in a Sunni neighbourhood in southern Baghdad as it was returning from a funeral in a holy Shi'ite city, killing 10 people and wounding one, police said.

The ambush took place in the predominantly Sunni Doura district, police said. The bus was returning from a funeral in the southern city of Najaf.

The violence comes one day after Iraq's prime minister pleaded for Iraqis to ''unite as brothers'' after a spasm of sectarian violence killed 60 people at the weekend in a dramatic escalation of sectarian bloodletting.
