Four metros to get rail platforms of international standards

Ranchi, July 11 (UNI) New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai will boast of railway stations of international standards, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said here today.

Mr Prasad said he was impressed by the European railway system during his five-country tour. However, the railway there was running on loss and subsidy, he added.

After handing over his passport to a CBI special court, Mr Prasad told newspersons he was happy over the fact that in India, the railway was making profit.

Sharing his observation on the European countries, he said there the number of trains was more compared to that of passengers.

Referring to good toilet facilities in railway bogies there, he said, ''our trains would also possess quality ones.'' His ministry, he said, would work in this regard.

Referring to railway projects in Jharkhand, Mr Prasad said the state government was not serious about it and alleged that the government had not even cleared their part of money meant for the railways' developmental schemes leading to slow progress in terms of implementation.
