Foeticide be treated as killing of human being : BJP

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh today said female foeticide should be treated as the killing of a human being.

"Punishment for female foeticide and murder of a person," he said while leading a demonstration of BJP Mahila Morcha at Jantar Mantar this morning against female foeticide.

Describing female foeticide as a blot on society and the nation, the BJP president said it had negated the country's glorious past and that all political parties, forgetting their political differences, should unitedly fight to curb this social evil.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj congratulated the Mahila Morcha for taking up a non-political social issue for the welfare of the society.

Female foeticide is not only a shameless crime but also a painful and dangerous act. It is creating an imbalance in the society. This crime cannot be checked through merely a legislation but through the spread of awareness among the masses,'' she said.

Morcha's Vice President Sumitra Mahajan expressed concern over the widespread practice of female foeticide and said unless some corrective measures were taken effectively, it would become a curse for the country.

Morcha President Karuna Shukla regretted that even after fifty eight years of independence, injustice was being meted out to girl child. She said the fact remained that the incidents of female foeticide were taking place more in affluent and educated families.
