Fee fixation: K'taka HC issues notice to Govt, Committee
Bangalore, July 11 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today ordered issuance of notices to the State Government and the Fee Fixation Committee following a writ petition filed by 36 students of a medical college challenging the order fixing the fee for PG and diploma courses and relevant notifications issued by the government.
The Bench, comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice D V Shylendra Kumar, issued the notices on the petition filed by Amol Mutkekar and 35 others of Jawaharlal Medical College in Belgaum, challenging the order fixing the fee at Rs 3,38,000 for PG courses and 2,53,0000 for diploma courses of the college and the relevant government notifications.
The petitioners contended that they had all paid a fees of Rs 2.22 lakh for PG and Rs 1.8 lakh for diploma courses at the time of admission. But now the Committee had fixed lower rates for other colleges and hiked the fees in their college. The Committee had not taken into consideration various factors in fixing the impugned rates and it was illegeal and discriminatory, they argued.
