Death sentence reduced to life term in gang rape-murder case

Allahahabad, July 11 (UNI) Allahabad High Court has convicted and awarded life imprisonment to three accused charged with murder after gang rape of a minor girl.

The trio Tasleem, Vishal and Kamru were earlier sentenced to death by the trial court.

In an appeal filed by the accused, the bench comprising Justices Mahesh Chand Jain and Mithilesh Chaudhary modified the trial court judgement and converted the death sentence into life imprisonment.

The incident is related to Sahimpur village in Fatehpur district.

On February 24, 2003, Preeti, aged about 13 yrs, and Poonam had gone to answer the call of nature. The accused caught hold of both of them and forcibly took them to the nearby wheat field.

They assaulted the girls and gang raped Preeti. Later, she was killed by them.

Additional sessions judge (Fast Track) Fatehpur after considering the evidence on record had inflicted death sentence to all the three accused.
