New Delhi, July 11 (UNI) The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) today ordered acceptance of a miscellaneous petition filed by Karnataka seeking to incorporate certain changes in its petition filed before the Tribunal.

The three-member CWDT passed the order when there was no objections from the contending parties after which the CWDT Chairman Justice N P Singh called the counsels of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for discussions in his chambers.

Meanwhile, the states are expecting an order to be passed by the CWDT on Karnataka's petition seeking to make public the Assessor's report 'if any' on the status of ground water in Cauvery delta.

Justice N P Singh contends that there are no Assessors' reports whereas other members say it has to be 'ascertained' if there are reports on the ground water status.

The Assessors' report on apportionment of water in the basin, among the riparian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Pondicherry was made public by the Tribunal by a majority order.

as per the report Tamil Nadu will get 395 tmcft for irrigating 24.70 lakh acres, Karnataka 250 tmcft for irrigating 18.85 lakh acres, Kerala 33.40 tmcft and Pondicherry 7 tmcft.

This is based on the total average availability of 740 tmcft in the Cauvery basin.

Release of Assessors' report is a point of contention within the three-member CWDT where the Chairman maintains that the Assessors' report should be part of the final report and making public this report will tantamount to disclosing the contents of the final report itself. However, he has been over-ruled by two other CWDT members which has made public the Assessors' report.
