Crime rate down in Hubli-Dharwad twin cities

Hubli, July 11 (UNI) The Hubli-Dharwad police have successfully brought down the crime in the twin-cities and helped increase of revenue to the government by curbing illicit liquor and lottery businesses during the past one year.

According to an official release here today, Commissioner of Police Narayan Nadamani the excise revenue of the government was doubled after curbing the illicit liquor manufacturing networks. The sale of official liquor which was worth Rs.33.56 crore during 2004-05 has reached 51.14 crore during 2005-06.

Even the sale of lottery tickets worth Rs.11.25 crore wre seized during the past three months in the present fiscal while the turnover last financial year was 41.25 crore. Three people had been detained under goonda act and have been lodged in different jails of the state.

Several cases including two dacoits have been cracked and the dacoits were arrested, he added.
