Govt for facilities for mngt of municipal solid

Aizawl, Jul 11: The Ministry of Environment and Forests in association with respective state pollution control boards in the NE region has planned creation of one model facility in a municipal area of the town in each state for demonstration of management of Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW).

According to government plans, projects for setting up of demo-project for implementation of MSW rules have been launched in NE states, official sources here today informed.

In NE, states projects are being executed on cost sharing basis (90:10). The Centre has earmarked Rs 6 crore to implement the project in the respective NE states.

The objective of project implementation include preparing a document of the MSW (management and handling) rules, 2000, commissioning and assessing the actual performance and sharing of information for dissemination to other local bodies in the state.

Besides this, the project would cover compliance with schedule II of the MSW rules relating to collection, segregation, storage, transportation, processing and disposal of MSW.
