Central Bank staff stage demo

Chennai, Jul 11: More than 32,000 employees and officers working in all the 3,300 branches of the nationalised Central Bank of India today staged demonstrations throughout the country.

Employees, who took part in the demonstration belonged to All India Central Bank Employees Federation (AIBEA), All India Central Bank Employees Congress, All India Central Bank Officers Association, Rashtriya Central Bank Officers Congress and the Central Bank Employees Federation of India.

AIBEA General Secretary C H Venkatachalam, in a press release here, said the strike was to demand, among other things, restoration of bilateralism, withdrawal of unilateral transfer of office bearers, deviation in the existing norms on discussions with the unions, withdrawal of unilateral instructions stopping staff welfare schemes, stop inordiante delay in settlement of PF, gratuity and pension, stop violation of policies and settlements and recruitment of clerks, sub-staff and watch and ward staff.

In the city, the employees and officers of the Bank staged a slogan shouting demonstration in front of the Bank's zonal office, Mr Venkatachalam said.

He said the Central Bank Depressed Class Employees Welfare organisations and Central Bank of India SC-ST-OBC employees Welfare Association, Mumbai, have extended their support for today's demonstration programme.
