Panaji, July 11 (UNI) Goa government today reiterated that it will give capital subsidy to the industries that fulfill the mandatory provision of giving employment to the tune of 80 per cent of the total jobs to the locals.

Informing this to the members in the state legislative assembly, Industries Minister Luizinho Faleiro said the government was taking all efforts to clear 189 cases pending since 1995 for release of capital subsidy to the extent of Rs 17.5 crore.

He told BJP opposition leader Manohar Parrikar during question hour that only 105 of these 189 pending cases fulfilled the criteria for obtaining the subsidy.

At the same time, the minister said the government had disbursed as much as Rs 2.94 crore to 58 other industries while the subsidy was pending for disbursement after sanction to 15 other industries.

He said about Rs 12.05 crore had been available with the government under the capital investment subsidy fund and sought details of the industries if any, that got the cheques before fulfilling the job provision.

He had also urged the industry to meet the obligation of providing at least 80 per cent of the jobs to the locals to get the subsidy.

The opposition leader, however, alleged that those who bribed the officials were getting the subsidy cheques at the earliest and not those who stuck to the criteria.

To which the minister replied the cheques were given to those industries which employed locals to the tune of mandated 80 per cent of the total jobs.
