BHEL to supply 250 MW thermal unit for TATA Power Company

Tiruchirapalli, July 11 (UNI) Amidst stiff competition from Chinese and Korean equipment suppliers, the public sector giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged a prestigious contract for a 250 MW Thermal Power Station (TPS).

According to a BHEL release here today, the order from TATA Power Company (TPC) was, notably, the first ever order secured by BHEL, where the boiler will be designed to suit firing of imported coal.

The order envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Main Plant Package for Unit-VIII of Trombay TPS, Maharashtra.

The equipment under the contract would be manufactured at BHEL's Tiruchirapalli, Haridwar, Bhopal, Bangalore and Jhansi plants.

However, erection and commissioning of the equipment would be monitored by the western region-- company's power sector, the release added.

For the same customer (TPC), BHEL had earlier supplied equipment and provided services for 500 MW units Five and Six and the combined cycle plant at Unit-Seven.

BHEL has the state-of-the-art technology for the manufacture of thermal sets up to 500 MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1000 MW rating suited to Indian conditions using Indian as well as imported coal.

Till date, all the eleven 250 MW thermal units operating in the country were supplied and commissioned by BHEL.

BHEL recently, bagged its single-largest contract from an Independent Power Producer (IPP) for a thermal power project comprising four units of 250 MW each in Raigarh and Chhattisgarh, the release added.
