Guwahati, Jul 11 (UNI) The BJP's Asom unit has questioned the state government's sincerity regarding implementation of the Right to Information(RTI) Act in the state.

In a release issued by state spokesperson of the party Charan Deka, the BJP said the RTI Act had not helped the common man in accessing information as the government had erected various hurdles to dissuade information seekers.

Mr Deka alleged that instead of training the officials in providing easy information to the public, the government was busy instructing them on how to make things harder for the people.

Pointing out that it was mandatory under the RTI Act to erect notice boards with all relevant data of any construction work undertaken by the government at the site of the work, Mr Deka said such notice boards were hard to be seen.

The spokesman further alleged that the RTI Act and the oath of secrecy taken by all ministers, MLAs and senior government officials at the time of assuming office were contradictory.

He said officials, who had taken pledge not to provide any government information, could not be expected to abide by the RTI Act in total spirit.
