Academic session of Mohammad Ali Jauhar university from 2007

Lucknow, July 11 (UNI) The academic session of the newly set up Mohammad Ali Jauhar University would commence from 2007 with five faculties, said Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan here today.

Though apprehending threat from the oppposition mainly Congress over the running of the university if Samajwadi Party (SP) loses power in the coming assembly polls, Mr Khan said now it is the duty of the minorities to give their full support to the government so that the university could be made a centre of excellence.

''Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has asked me to start the academic session of the Jauhar university from 2007,'' he told reporters about his meeting with the Chief Minister yesterday.

Criticising the Congress for putting spanner on the creation of the university, he said they have now warned that its existence would be at stake after the SP government is voted out of power in the state.

''I don't understand why Congress was opposing the university when it has been created for the uplift of the minorities and the party itself claims to be a supporter of the community,'' he wondered.

He said the three conditions laid by the governor, T V Rajeswar for approval of the private university would be fulfilled partially within a week while construction work would be completed within six months. The Governor had asked the Jauhar university to have at least 50 acres of land, Rs 2 crore as security deposit and 24,000 meters of constructed area.

Mr Khan said next year, the academic session will begin with five faculties, including Engineering, Humanities, Law college, department of Education and Nursing college.
