67 kg charas seized from two trucks

Jammu, July 11 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police seized 67 kg of charas from two trucks at Rajbagh area under Hiranagar police station on Jammu-Pathankot highway in Kathua district.

The contraband concealed in 33 polythene packs, each weighing about two kg, was being smuggled from Srinagar to Delhi in the trucks, police sources told UNI.

The police acting on a tip-off, last evening, stopped the trucks at a barrier and recovered 40 packets of the contraband, hidden in tool boxes. The police later recovered 27 kg more of charas from these trucks, after a second search, sources said.

The police decided to dismantle the body of both the trucks, on the apprehension that some more charas could have been concealed.

The drivers of the both the trucks Nazir Ahmed and Manzoor Ahmed, residents of Anantnag and Pulwama respectively, have been taken into custody along with their vehicles and are being interrogated.

A case under NDPS has been registered against them.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General(IG), Jammu Police, has announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the police party for its successful operation.
