Welfare activities helped Cong sweep polls: APCC chief
Hyderabad, July 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President K Keshava Rao today said the welfare measures and the massive irrigation initiative taken up by the state government was the reason for the landslide victory for Congress in the elections for the ZP Chairmen and Vice Chairmen posts today.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Rao said the Congress bagged the ZP Chairman post in Khammam district where the election was decided on toss as both the Congress and the TDP were locked in a tie.
When the Collector on the instructions of the State Election Commission conducted the election through toss, luck favoured Congress and its ally the Communist Party of India (CPI), he said.
While the Congress won the Chairman post, CPI nominee became the Vice-chairman, leaving the TDP-CPI(M) alliance in dismay.
Of the 46 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats, in Khammam, both Congress and TDP secured 22 each and the remaining two seats were bagged by the CPI-ML (New Democracy).
