Water level in Alamatti dam increases; let up in rains

Bangalore, July 10 (UNI) The Alamatti dam, across river Krishna, in Bijapur district of Karnataka slightly increased to touch 516.99 metres as against its full level of 519.6m.

Alamatti Dam Chief Engineer Siddagangappa told UNI that the inflow into the reservoir had reduced due let up in rains. The inflow, which was 1.84 lakh cusecs yesterday after touching two lakh cusecs on July six, had further reduced to 1.05 lakh cusecs today.

The discharge was also maintained at 1.05 lakh cusecs. Twenty crest gates of the dam had been lifted to release the water.

River Krishna was still in spate and a round-the-clock help desk had been set up to monitor the flood situation and give information to people, he added.

Meanwhile, the Cauvery basin reservoirs in the state also received reduced inflows today with the catchment areas receiving scanty rainfall.

The Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir, built across the river Cauvery, near here, was just four feet short of touching its brim. Though the inflow was reduced to 15,759 cusecs, the level stood at 120.83 ft as against its maximum level of 124.80 ft. The level was 97.90 ft during the corresponding day the previous year. The outflow was maintained at 1126 cusecs.

Water level in the Kabini reservoir stood at 2282.24 ft as against its full level 2,284 ft. The inflow and outflow were 8124 cusecs and 5000 cusecs respectively.

In the Harangi reservoir, the water level was 2856.41 cusecs.

The inflow was 35,505 cusecs and the discharge 2,000 cusecs.
