State NCC senior cadets undergoing scuba diving camp

Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) A scuba diving camp is in progress at the Western Naval Command Swimming pool here for the National Cadet Corps (NCC), as a part of their training curriculum.

The camp, which began on June 26, will go on till July 14 and is being conducted by No1 (Mah) Naval Unit Mumbai with professional expertise drawn from the Command Clearance Diving Team (CCDT) of the Western Naval Command here, a release issued today said.

The aim of the camp is to inculcate a spirit of adventure among the NCC cadets through snorkelling and diving, as also to build up a cadre of good swimmers among the youth of the State, who could voluntarily render their services to life saving and flood relief operations, Captain S Ruperee, Camp Commandant and Commanding officer of No 1 (Mah) Naval Unit NCC Mumbai was quoted as saying in the release.

The three-week camp has senior division boys and girls selectively drawn from all over Maharashtra NCC units participating.

The selected candidates are then screened through good swimming and other rigorous exercises. They also have to undergo a thorough medical examination, including compression camber test at the Naval Hospital Aswini.

So far 20 boys and 10 girls out of a total 50 have successfully cleared the selection process and are learing the art of underwater diving.

The training is being conducted by Commander Vijay Kumar Raval and his team of instructors from the CCDT, the release added.
