'Span' magazine's Sufi concert for Indians
New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) American 'Span' magazine will be bringing top Sufi musicians Shujaat Husain and Meraj Ahmed Nizami for a concert here on Wednesday.
Son of legendary sitar maestro Vilayat Khan, Shujaat is known both for his mastery of the sitar and exceptional singing while Meraj belongs to the community of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah, the birthplace of Qawwali music.
According to the US Embassy here, the 'Span' magazine has for over four decades played the role of India's ''window to America''.
''The event is yet another effort of the magazine to strengthen the cultural bridge between the United States and India through the universal language of music,'' the embassy said.
Talks on Sufism in America by US Fulbright scholar Christopher Holland and on Sufi music in India by film-maker Muzaffar Ali will be a highlight of the concert.
The concert will be held at the Sathya Sai International Auditorium.
