Sena observes bandh in Sangli over statue desecration

Sangli, July 10 (UNI) The Shiv Sena today called for a bandh in the city to protest yesterday's desecration of a statue of late Meenatai Thackeray, the wife of Sena chief Bal Thackeray, in Mumbai.

Though all shops, markets, hotels and restaurants and other business activities in the busy areas of city remained closed in support of the bandh, the services of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MRSTC) buses, autorickshaws and private vehicles have been normal in the city.

Police said the bandh has been peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported so far.
