Second NBW against Sehrunissa issued

Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) Additional Sessions Judge Abhay Thipsay today issued second Non-Bailable Warrant(NBW) against Sehrunissa Shaikh, after she failed to appear before the special Court here.

Sehrunissa, mother of Zahira Shaikh- the prime-witness turned accused in the Best bakery case was out on bail in connection with a perjury case, for which she was awarded a suspended sentence of three months imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 500 by the special Court.

While issuing the second NBW, the Court forfeited her bail surety amount of Rs 4000.

On Friday, the Court issued its first NBW and directed the Byculla police to arrest Sehrunissa, after she failed to surrender before the special Court.

Earlier, the family's counsel Umesh Deshpande told UNI that Sehrunissa's youngest son Nasibullah has communicated to him that his mother is at an undisclosed location in Gujarat and has refused to surrender or undergo any more prison sentence in the perjury case.

Earlier, the Apex Court had sentenced Zahira Shaikh to one-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for filing false affadivits in the Best bakery retrail.

Similarly, the sessions court in Mumbai also found Zahira and her sister Sahira guilty of perjury during retrail of the Best bakery case and awarded three months of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 500 each to both.

At present Zahira is undergoing her consecutive sentences at the Nashik Central Jail.
