Revived monsoon brings heavy rains to HP

Shimla, July 10 (UNI) A revived monsoon brought heavy rains in several parts of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours, but no loss of life and property was reported from anywhere in the state, official sources today said.

The met office said all the mid and lower hills of the state had received heavy to moderate rainfall during the last 24 hrs, intensifying the wet conditions in the state.

However,power generation in the prestigious 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydel power project at Bhavangar in Shimla district and 300 MW Baspa hydel project remained suspended in the day, aggravating the power crises in of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, official sources said.

Ghamroor in Kangra district recorded the heaviest rainfall of 89.2 mm of rain followed by 88 mm at Nauni in Solan district, 85.5 mm at Nagrota Surian and 80 mm of rain at Guler in Kangra district.

The met office said Dharamshala in Kangra district recorded about 67.2 mm of rains during the last 24 hours, taking the total rainfall to 667 mm from June one till date.

Palampur, Berthin and Shimla also recorded 58.1 mm, 53 mm and 51.2 mm of rains respectively, it said.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district also recorded 2.5 mm of rain, while Patsio in Lahaul-Spiti received 2.4 mm of rains.

Sky was partly cloudy over Shimla and its adjoning areas but the cloud cover increased as the day progressed. The dense fog engulfed the state capital, forcing drivers to drive with their headlights on.

The state capital recorded a night temperature of 16.6 degrees while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a low of 21.8 and 20.7 degrees respectively, the met office said.

The met office has predicted moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers at several places in the state during the last 24 hours.
