Police arrest one in connection with y'days arson in A'bad
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, July 10 (UNI) City police today arrested an anti-social element who indulged in arson and tried to create a rift between two communities here yesterday.
The arrest assumes significance, on the backdrop of a statewide demonstration by Shiv Sainiks to protest against the alleged descration of a statue of late Meenatai Thackeray in Mumbai.
Speaking to UNI, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudhir Dabhade said that tension prevailed for sometime in the city last evening, when prominent Sena leaders reported out to police that miscreants had poured petrol on few shops at Gulmandi locality of the city.
The miscreant had poured petrol on two shops and a scooter belonging to both the communities.
A result of which, prominent leaders from both the communities started suspecting each other for the same, Mr Dabhade said.
However, the watchman of a sweetmart, who gave description of the suspcted person, made the task easier for police to nab him.
The police had recorded three such incidents from the city, till the watchman provided details of the suspected accused around mid-night yesterday, Mr Dabhade said.
The police patrolling team led by Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Nikam arrested the 30-year-old youth Mahadeo Balu Jaswade around 0002 hrs today.
He has been booked under sections 153, 435, 436, 427, 518 and 66 b of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for trying to create communml tension, indluging in arson, and involvement in anti-social activities.
A local court remanded the youth for two days custody, when he was produced for the PCR by the police today, Mr Dabhade said.
The City Police Chief Uddhav Kamble declared cash awards to the watchman Ramsingh Suryawanshi and Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Nikam for their special efforts in order to maintain peace in the town, Mr Dabhade added.
