NGO claims two-wheeler manufacturers violating safety laws
New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) A non governmental organisation has claimed that two-wheeler manufacturers are not providing ISI mark helmets to customers and are violating safety laws.
According to a survey conducted by the Kamla Jagrati Manch, two- wheeler showrooms obtain a signed declaration from customers, saying they already posses an ISI helmet and do not require a new one.
As per the law, at the time of sale of a two-wheeler the onus of supplying quality helmets, meeting the specifications of Bureau of Indian Standard, is on the manufacturer.
The NGO said during the survey, conducted in about 80 two-wheeler showrooms, the manufacturers were also selling nonISI and substandard helmets to the customers.
It has urged the authorities to ensure that safety norms are adopted.
