MCD schools in sorry state; without water, power; many run in tents'

New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) BJP Members of the Municipal corporation of Delhi today expressed concern over the sorry state of schools run by the corporation which, they said, had led to about a lakh students quitting these schools last year.

During a discussion on the issue in the MCD house today, BJP members bemoaned the inadequate number of schools run by the corporation. Many of them are running either under tents or trees due to lack of a proper building. Many others do not have drinking water facilities and electricity supply.

Mr Vijender Gupta of the BJP said it was a matter of serious concern that more than 300 MCD schools in Delhi were running in tents because the renovation or construction work could not be completed during the summar vacations.

''Of the rest, while some schools have their walls in a fractured state, many do not have doors or window panes while others do not have any electricity switchboards,''Mr Gupta said.

Further, 381 schools of the MCD still do not have computer facility. There is also a shortage of 2843 teachers.

Leader of the Opposition in the MCD House Subhash Arya alleged out of the 1811 schools, many schools run by the corporation do not even have proper supply of drinking water.

Mr Gupta said nothing could describe the sorry state of the schools than the fact that the children studying there were not even given their yearly report cards.
