Lippi to step down after World Cup win-newspapers

ROME, July 10 (Reuters) Marcello Lippi plans to step down as Italy coach after leading his team to World Cup victory on Sunday, Italian newspapers reported today.

Officials at the Italian Soccer Federation could not be immediately reached for comment.

Lippi, whose contract ends later this month, had declined to answer questions about his future at a news conference following Italy's victory over France in the final.

''Ask me another question, let's enjoy this great moment,'' he said.

Newspapers including Corriere della Sera, Il Messaggero and La Repubblica all reported that Lippi had announced his intention to step down, however.

Lippi is expected to hold a news conference in Germany later today.
